Highway Concessionaire - Debt Resolution (Islamic Structured Finance, 2007)

We advised the Al-Bai Bithaman Ajil Islamic Debt Securities ('BaIDS') holders, comprising a consortium of more than a dozen banks, financial institutions, institutional investors, both local and foreign on the debt resolution of Islamic Debt Securities with a face value of over RM2 billion owed by a highway concessionaire. The single largest shareholder of the concessionaire is a listed investment holding company with diversified interests.

BinaFikir was the Lead Financial Adviser to the BaIDS holders' Steering Committee ('BSC') and assisted the BSC in exploring various alternatives to maximise debt recovery for all BaIDS holders. For this assignment, we evaluated the entire spectrum of possible workouts from a potential M&A, to a potential debt rescheduling and restructuring.
